The God Killers Saga – The Notes

  • Our heroes are asked to right a great wrong that was done to Penelope (and Piper’s) family a very, very long time ago.
  • They arrive and discover they have fallen into a trap by a man named Carter.
  • Carter tells a story of three of the most powerful mages to ever live; Maximillian, his lover Saraphine, and his brother Solomon.
  • Saraphine and Maximillian, the parents of Carter, were tricked into doing a great wrong and the gods themselves took it upon themselves to punish them, splitting them into their physical, mental and magical essences.
  • The heroes must travel to these realms and find a way to collect the essences. The physical essences were used to create new planes of existence. The magical essences compose how these three mages will manifest and finally, the mental essences exist outside normal reality and have locked away the mages thoughts and emotions.
  • When all the essences have been gathered, the spell can be undone and Maximillian and Saraphine can be returned. Upon doing so, Carter has promised the heroes will be released.
  • In the first realm, the heroes found themselves in the city of Sky’s Reach. Investigation led them to a place called the Temple of Maximillan.
  • The temple seemed to be a reflection of Maximillian’s tortured past. All of his nightmares had manifested into a frightening creature named Maximar, the Nightmare Dragon.
  • When Maximar was defeated, the real Maximillain was able to present himself fully. He condensed the physical realm back into its essence and handed it to our heroes. They returned to Carter’s den.
  • They placed the essence and activated the spell again, taking them to Maximillian’s mental realm. But, something was wrong. It quickly becomes apparent that something had take control of the place; a god-like being called the Fateful Guide.
  • After surviving the Fateful Guide’s tests, Maximillian said that he can’t get them out alone, but that somehow he had sensed Saraphine sending her power to him. Together with the heroes, they managed to weaken the Guide and break free from his grasp. Maximillian used the last of his magical essence to condense the mental realm and our heroes return to Carter’s den once again.
  • Following the pattern, they travel to Saraphine’s physical realm. Here, they arrive in a small village called Duevene.
  • They hear of High Lady Saraphine, though she has fallen greatly ill recently. She tells the heroes of an ancient artifact called the Lover’s Bind that she’d used before and that maybe it could help her get better, if they could retrieve it.
  • Another group, Ash Company, had also heard of the Lover’s Bind and they want it for themselves, intending to use it to murder the immortal queen, Saraphine.
  • Our heroes were the first to acquire it and they decided to return it to the High Lady at her castle. When they arrived, they discovered they have been tricked by Saraphine’s master of coin, a man named Tomas.
  • They ended up in a place called the Tomb of the Unwilling. Here they were forced to fight a powerful animation called the Construct.
  • Once back at the surface, they discovered Duevene had been destroyed and all its citizens had been taken.
  • Lady Saraphine, now herself once again, returned to the heroes. She explained that she used the Lover’s Bind to gift her power to Maximillian so that he could free himself from the Fateful Guide. When she did, however, it left her severely weakened.
  • The Master, who is not the Master at all, but instead Solomon, brother to Maximillian, had somehow found her plane of existence and arrived when she was in her weakened state. He used a spell on her that convinced her that she was someone else, Lady Grey – leader of Ash Company -, and he used her to try to get the Lover’s Bind.
  • Now that he had it, he had enough power to begin his demonic ritual. Combined with the Lover’s Bind and the many, many sacrifices of the people of Duevene, Solomon sought to collapse Saraphine’s realm and take her essence for himself.
  • After a hard battle, Solomon is defeated. Saraphine thinks Carter’s plan could work and condenses her physical realm into the crystal. The heroes return to Carter’s study and insert the crystal. The spell continues.
  • They end up in Saraphine’s mental realm. A spirit of young Sara tells them that the realm is fractured and all pieces of Saraphine must be quelled in order to gain access to the strongest part of her; the only way to gain the mental essence.
  • They found a room with a mirror that reflected the room with one extra object: a white and pink, painted horse.
  • They found a statue of Maximilian that asked to be serenaded. He didn’t like whatever they sang to him.
  • In a room filled with garbage, they found deadly rats. After, they found the Glasses of True Sight and a silver scroll with a single line of text on it.
  • The next room had a demonic summoning circle and a version of Saraphine in her young teenage years. She meant to summon a powerful demon and they assisted her.
  • With the spell successful, this version of Saraphine was sated and vanished.
  • They found the painted horse and a curse switched their bodies.
  • Areamis found a puzzle piece after swimming through an underground tunnel.
  • They took the horse back to the mirror room and the curse on them was reversed. A new door opened.
  • They found a aviary on a cliffside, overlooked by Old lady Saraphine. She seemed possessed by something and attacked alongside a freakishly powerful wind elemental.
