Princes of the Apocalypse - The Notes

  • About a month and a half ago, an important delegation was sent out from Mirabar. This delegation was comprised of many important officials, goods and potential services. One month ago, the delegation went missing.
  • Every part of the delegation was important, but one above all was a coded document, split apart and carried by three of the delegates. The document could only be read if a person was in possession of all three parts. Only those of the Lord’s Alliance know the importance of this document, as it spells out important terms and agreements decided upon by Mirabar, Waterdeep, and Neverwinter, the beginnings of a proposed alliance to unite the Sword Coast under a single banner.
  • Of all the delegation members, three are of the utmost importance.
    • Teresial, the moon elf, carried a pouch of magical seeds highly sought after by the Emerald Enclave. She also carried one third of the coded document.
    • Rhundorth, the shield dwarf, is a senior member of the Lord’s Alliance and one of the key supporters of a Sword Coast alliance. He also carried one third of the coded document.
    • Deseyna Majarra, a human noble from Waterdeep, carried with her the third piece of the coded document.
  • Our heroes were tasked with finding these delegates and retrieving the documents. It was also vital for members of the Emerald Enclave to locate the magical seeds that Teresial carried as well.
  • They arrived in Red Larch and made conversation around town. They learned several things:
    • The Dessarin Valley had seen much strangeness lately (Odd weather, earthquakes, fires, etc.).
    • An odd dwarven book had appeared in town, with glowing letters (Our heroes acquired the book)
    • A nearby town, Beliard, was the last place the delegation was seen before they disappeared.
  • They tracked the strange dwarven book to Womford where they met a water genasi named Shoalar. He claimed he received the book and many more from strange men wearing black robes and gargoyle masks.
  • On their way to Beliard, our heroes find the spot that the delegation was attacked. They find dead guards, bugbears (with the Black Earth symbol on their chests) and a woman wearing a gargoyle mask. Samera takes the mask.
  • They are ambushed by knights riding vultures. One of them has a map with a placed marked call, “The Spire.” It also has an arrow symbol drawn next to it.
  • At the Feathergale Spire, our heroes pose as initiates. This falls through and they are attacked. They clear out the tower and find a note from someone claiming to be the leader of the Feathergale Society and that she was happy that they managed to steal away one of the three delegates from the Cult of the Black Earth. It also says to keep an eye on a place called the Sacred Stone Monastery, enemies of the Feathergale’s.
  • At the monastery, our heroes are tricked and fall deep below the monastery. After being lost for some time and fighting many battles, they make their way back to the surface.
  • They do battle with the monastery abbess. In a dark moment, Affadil loses her life. They rescue a few prisoners and one of them ends up being Bruldenthar, the second in command to Rhundorth. He confirms that Rhundorth and Teresial were taken below the monastery, but that Deseyna was taken by knights riding vultures.
  • That night, one of the prisoners reveals herself to be Tanwyn, a warlock with a mysterious past. She requires the heroes help to get her stuff back from the monastery and becomes intertwined in their quest.
  • They return to Red Larch, where Tanwyn has a run in with a group of men that seem to have an affinity with water. They are looking for the heroes and tell Tanwyn to bring the others to see them, or they will hunt her down.
  • Back at the monastery, the heroes use a key they found to unlock a giant door. It leads them to a grand staircase that goes down for several hundred feet. At the bottom they find an ancient dwarven fortress. It is occupied by the Cult of the Black Earth.
  • After a long, difficult battle, our heroes are invited to a meeting with an earth genasi named Miraj. He informs them that the Cult of the Eternal Flame is posing as druids to gather power for something called the Ritual of the Wicker Giant. If they can stop the ritual Miraj promises to return Rhundorth to them.
  • At Scarlet Moon Hall, the ritual has already started. Upon making it to the hall, our heroes are attacked by men with powerful fire magic. After many battles, they came face to face with Elizar, the leader of the hall, and defeated him.
  • They found a strange door at the base of Scarlet Moon Hall, but it was protected by powerful fire magic and they couldn’t enter.
  • When they returned to Miraj, it becomes clear that they had been deceived. Miraj attacked with his stone golem. When the battle went south for him, Miraj used an invisibility spell to flee. The golem was destroyed.
  • Down a long hallway, they found and destroyed a statue of Ogremoch and drew out several more Black Earth members.
  • They captured a guard. He told them someone called, “The Prophet” had ordered the delegates to a place called the Black Geode.
  • They found the stairs leading below the ancient stronghold.
  • After attempting to take a rest, they are attacked and led down a hallway. Inside, they find a hall of petrified men and women.
  • They meet the Black Earth cult leader, Marlos, who is a medusa. They do battle and defeat him.
  • After being chased through the ancient dwarven stronghold, our heroes make a daring escape. They return to Red Larch.
